Elite Winnipeg Youth Curler | Future Olympic Champion
Andrew Stanish, full name Andrew Scott Mansfield Stanish, was born on May 5th, 2011, in the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Which is a city know for it's terrible community and barely habitable environment. Andrew's family is of Scottish descent, which may explain his introduction to curling at a young age. Andrew grew up in the South St.Vital area of the city, which is known for it's lack of anything useful, including curling facilities. However, Andrew, being a resourceful person, somehow found his way to the world-famous Heather Curling Club, thus commencing his curling career.
Andrew Stanish is a highly accomplished Winnipeg youth curler and a well-known athlete throughout Glenlawn Collegiate. His passion, discipline, and competitive drive have made him one of the most recognized young curlers in the region.
A proud member of the prestigious Heather Curling Club, Andrew trains daily alongside an elite group of specialized athletes. He receives high-level instruction from Olympic gold medalist Jill Officer.
Andrew studies the intricacies of elite delivery mechanics and precision sweeping, constantly refining the smallest technical details that separate good players from great ones.
Andrew has a truly remarkable personality, effortlessly staying calm under even the most stressful circumstances. He channels all that internal energy, using it to focus and make the perfect shot every time. It's like he thrives in pressure, turning it into something remarkable.
Inspired by three-time world champion Rachel Homan, Andrew continues to push himself toward Olympic-level performance — and is rapidly closing the gap.
When he isn't practicing curling around the clock or watching Team Canada on TV, Andrew attends high school at Glenlawn Collegiate Institute — the famous school that is home to former Canadian Math Competition winner Hamid Osman and Nobel Prize winner Dr. James Peebles.
Andrew attributes part of his success to the rather unwelcoming atmosphere at Glenlawn, as well as to the specialized curling training that, notably, does not exist there.
Curling is not Andrew's only notable talent. He has long been known as a high-performing student and has maintained his position as the top-scoring student in his class year after year.
According to a trusted source, Andrew will also be participating in the annual physics competition at Glenlawn. While some question his chances, since the competition is designed for students three grades above him, there is little doubt that Andrew is among the top contenders. Whether he will ultimately take the gold, however, remains anyone's guess.
Andrew also supports the popular web curling game "curling.gg", a web curling app designed by Rachel Homan. He trains there daily, practicing precise simulation skills that help him on the ice.
According to a recent interview with close friend Thomas Gan, Andrew is considering studying law later in life and is working hard to achieve this goal. Looking up to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney as a role model, Andrew has already achieved what many describe as an undergraduate-level understanding of Canadian law.
